Reading a chart
Which way the rows go, and what the numbers mean.
- Row 1 is at the bottom; you knit upwards.
- Each square shows how the stitch looks from the right side (RS).
- Flat: right-side rows (odd numbers) are read from right to left; wrong-side rows (even) from left to right, working each stitch as its opposite: a knit square is purled on a wrong-side row.
- In the round: every round is read from right to left.
- Row numbers sit on the side each row starts from. Stitch numbers run along the bottom from the right.
- Heavier lines every 10 stitches help you count.
The written pattern does the reading for you, row by row.
